KIWANIS KIDS RACE

ABOUT THIS EVENT

The 16th annual Kiwanis Kids Triathlon Series is a series for boys & girls born between the years 2000-2005 (7-12 years old). The Y Freedom Tri is Race #4 in the series. This year’s Series sponsors are still to be deteremined.  Additional sponsors are Chirohealth, New Hope Church, Tri On The Run, On The Run, Best Buy and Capital Bank of Pearland. The course features comfortable distances and spectator-friendly surroundings. We also will utilize chip timing by Run Houston Timing. For information on the series itself and the other 8 races available from May 14 thru late October, please visit www.greaterhoustonkiwanis.org/triathlon.

DISTANCES

Boys/Girls born in 2005, 2004, 2003 (7-9 years old) swim 50M, bike 1 mile, run ¼ mile. Boys/Girls born in 2002, 2001, 2000 (10-12 years old) swim 100M, bike 2 miles, run ½ mile. For our race venue, that means birth years 2003, 2004, 2005 will swim from one side of the 50 meter pool at Independence Park to the other side. They will then race two loops on their bike and then a short 1/4 mile run through the grass to finish at the pavilion.
Birth years 2000, 2001, 2002 will swim down and back in the 50 meter pool at Independence Park to the other (they can likely touch bottom the entire time). They will then race three loops of the park on their bike and then a short 1/2 mile run through the grass to finish at the pavilion.

LOCATION

Independence Park
3919 Liberty Dr
Pearland, TX

Our race is a very safe race venue as the entire race will be contained within Independence Park--the children do NOT have to get out onto any public roads! Parking will be at Pearland High School (3775 S. Main in Pearland--across the street from Independence Park) so please allow 10-15 minutes to park and walk to the park. Our race starts at 7:30 a.m. due to the heat and the large number of participants. We want to insure that the kids are able to race quickly and get out of the heat so please be prompt. We will NOT wait to start the race for late arrivals.

AGE GROUPINGS BY BIRTH YEAR

Athletes are placed in an age group by their birth year, not by their age on race day. This year’s eligible birth years are 2000-2005. Each age group races separately. Boys and Girls compete separately in their age group. NOTE: It is up to the discretion of the Race Director to allow an athlete born after 2005 to compete.

RACE-DAY DETAILS

Chip Timing & Pre-Race Check In

This race will be chip timed! For those of you new to triathlons, that means there will be a small plastic chip that is attached on a velcro strap to your child for the duration of the race. The chip will record the start and finish time accurately so we can avoid errors.

Parking will be at Pearland High School (3775 S. Main in Pearland--across the street from Independence Park), not the park so please allow 10-15 minutes to park and walk your bike over to the park.
